About DormWay

Prototype Number 200? We created a "petting zoo" to generate hybrid agent/human made prototypes in a few minutes.

We're building the AI-powered command center that college students actually need.

Students juggle Canvas, email, group chats, personal calendars, and campus resources across a dozen different apps. The result? Missed deadlines, confusion about requirements, and unnecessary academic stress. DormWay centralizes everything into a single, intelligent interface.

What We're Building

DormWay automatically syncs class schedules, parses syllabi for due dates, tracks assignments, and surfaces relevant campus events and opportunities. No manual data entry. No scattered tools. Just context-aware recommendations that help students stay on top of their academic and campus life.

Core features:

  • Automated LMS integration (Canvas/Blackboard) and syllabus parsing
  • Smart scheduling with deadline reminders and study session suggestions
  • Campus navigation with real-time building/room directions
  • Email aggregation that highlights important messages from instructors
  • University knowledge engine for registration alerts and degree planning
  • Optional wellness and productivity nudges (never framed as therapy)

Why The Build Story Matters

The way we're building DormWay has become as compelling as what we're building. Our team is a college student creating his first product for fellow students, paired with a seasoned digital executive (CDO at Universal Audio) returning to hands-on product development while juggling a full-time role and raising two kids—one only two years from college himself.

We're not just using AI to create product "magic" (following our Holy Shit Doctrine)—we're using it as a force multiplier that lets our team of 2 operate like a team of 10 at the cost of 1. SwiftUI frontend, TypeScript API backend, Temporal for data processing, PortKey for LLM proxy, with agentic AI handling everything from personalization to content generation to user research synthesis.

Current Status

We're in alpha, building toward launch at University of Michigan for Move-In Day 2025 (August 16).

Why Build in Public?

College students are our users, testers, and future ambassadors. By documenting our build process, sharing challenges, and iterating based on real feedback, we're creating something that students will actually find indispensable—not just another app they download and forget.

Making the Grade chronicles our journey from alpha to campus-wide adoption, including technical decisions, user research insights, partnership negotiations, and guerrilla marketing experiments. It's also the story of how modern AI tooling enables rapid, lean product development at unprecedented scale.

Follow along as we build the college experience students deserve.
